Learn the Golf Swing And Have A Better Game
The problem that most people have as they try to learn the golf swing is that they make things too complicated. There have been thousands and thousands of books and articles written about how to swing the club and it is safe to say that people over think it.
For the top professionals, the position of the hands or the snap of the wrist may be critical to get an extra ten yards but for most of us who just want to make solid contact the message should be keep it simple.
It will not do any good to have dozens of different thoughts going through your head as you swing. “Keep your head down. Make a complete shoulder turn. Point your belt buckle at the target.” These are bits of advice that we have all heard but as you swing the club is not the time to be reminding yourself of them.

All that is going to do is add stress to your swing and tension will torpedo any chance you have of hitting a good shot.
The best way to prepare to hit the ball is to get your body properly aligned to the target and relax. Flex your knees slightly and allow your arms to hang naturally in front of you as you tilt your body forward from the waist. Your grip on the club is critical to make a good golf swing. If you are right handed, place the club in your left hand first and hold the grip in your fingers.
Do not put the butt of the club in your palm. The V that forms between your thumb and first finger should be pointing straight up at your left shoulder. Now place your right hand over the top of the left hand, interlocking your little finger on the left hand with the forefinger of the right. Do not hold the club too tight.
Keep your wrists straight as you take the club back. They will cock as you reach about waist high and should stay in this position until you reach the top of the swing and start back down. Rotate your shoulders as you take the club back to allow for a full body turn. Think of coiling your body like a spring as you go back and then uncoiling it as you come down.
Do not go too fast and do not go too slow as you make your swing, develop a very natural smooth tempo. Start practicing by taking the club back only about half way and work your way up to a full swing.
